About Walleye Alliance
Protecting Minnesota's Walleye Legacy
Our mission is simple:
Advocate. Educate. Protect.
We advocate for responsible fisheries management, educate anglers and communities about the challenges facing our lakes, and work to protect the resources that make Minnesota's fishing traditions possible.
Why We Exist
As Minnesota's fisheries evolve, so must the conversations surrounding their management.
The Walleye Alliance was formed to ensure those conversations are driven by science, data, and the voices of Minnesota anglers—not emotion or politics.
We believe responsible conservation today creates better fishing tomorrow.
A Conservation-First Approach
One example is our support of a statewide four-walleye daily possession limit.
Over the past six years, public support for this proposal has grown significantly, with recent surveys showing approximately 60–70% support among anglers. Many of Minnesota's premier walleye fisheries already operate under reduced possession limits while continuing to produce outstanding fishing. Extending similar conservation principles statewide helps protect lakes facing increasing pressure without eliminating opportunities for anglers.
This isn't about taking something away—it's about ensuring Minnesota's walleye fisheries remain healthy and productive for generations to come.
Working With the DNR, Not Against It
We believe the best fisheries management happens through collaboration.
The Walleye Alliance works with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, fisheries professionals, conservation groups, educators, and local communities to provide meaningful input on issues affecting Minnesota's waters.
Our efforts include:
- Supporting local walleye stocking initiatives.
- Participating in creel surveys and fisheries research.
- Advocating for responsible harvest regulations.
- Promoting aquatic invasive species (AIS) education.
- Supporting habitat improvement and lake stewardship projects.
- Helping protect public access to Minnesota's lakes.
- Providing constructive feedback during fisheries management discussions.
Education, Research and Conservation
Protecting Minnesota's walleye fisheries requires more than passion—it requires education, research, and informed decision-making.
The Walleye Alliance is committed to educating anglers, families, and communities about responsible fishing practices while inspiring the next generation of conservation-minded outdoorsmen and women. Through youth programs, community outreach, and educational initiatives, we help foster a lifelong appreciation for Minnesota's fisheries and the importance of protecting them.
At the same time, we believe effective conservation must be guided by reliable data. Working alongside the Minnesota DNR and Central Lakes College, we've helped conduct modern creel surveys that provide valuable insights into fishing pressure, harvest trends, catch rates, technology use, and angler opinions. This information helps support informed fisheries management and ensures the voices of Minnesota anglers are heard.
By combining education with science-based research, we're helping build a stronger future for Minnesota's walleye fisheries—one where today's decisions create better fishing opportunities for generations to come.
